How to Thrive on a Creative Path Without Losing Your Soul
For writers, creators and artists.
How to self-fund the work that matters, say no and play the long game, avoid mimetic contagion, and find your own unique, weird path.
Paul Millerd is the author of The Pathless Path and Good Work. A former strategy consultant who walked away from a “guaranteed” career to write about work, he gives talks on ambition, money, creative work and freedom, and gets rooms laughing about them.
Keynotes, fireside conversations and workshops for teams.
For writers, creators and artists.
How to self-fund the work that matters, say no and play the long game, avoid mimetic contagion, and find your own unique, weird path.
For companies, people leaders, HR teams and universities.
Paul’s belief is that everyone is already “pathless.” He helps people see the hidden scripts that stifle our imagination, and what it might look like to approach a career with a pathless mindset.
A keynote for conferences, companies and universities.
Modern culture tells us that good work must come with a paycheck and success means money, fame, and status. What if the “good work” worth doing doesn’t come with a paycheck (at least at first), but enables us to reawaken the fires that once drove us early in our lives and careers?
For mid-career people weighing a sabbatical or a leap.
On quitting when it doesn’t make sense, radically cutting spending, reinvention, embracing low-status moves, prototyping leaps, and practicing leisure and wonder.
Paul spent ten years working in strategy consulting, at McKinsey & Company and Boston Consulting Group among other firms. He has an MBA and an M.S. in Systems Engineering from MIT, and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Management from the University of Connecticut.
He quit his job in 2017 without any income lined up, moved to Taiwan, and has written about the experiment in public ever since. He has written a newsletter since 2017, self-published The Pathless Path in 2022 and Good Work in 2024, and turned down a $200,000 two-book deal from Portfolio (Penguin).
